ABOUT CRPD

Welcome to the website of the Centre for Research on Peace and Development (CRPD), a multidisciplinary research centre at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Leuven University (KU Leuven). CRPD conducts conceptual, empirical and applied research with the aim of improving our understanding of the causes of violent conflicts and the challenges of sustainable peace building.

Congratulations Dr. line kuppens!

On the 9th of October 2018, Line Kuppens succesfully defended her PhD thesis entitled: The role of education in building sustainable peace: an analysis of teachers' views & practices with regards to peace & conflict in Côte d'Ivoire and Kenya.

UNESCO Chair in Building Sustainable Peace
 

In 2007, the United Nations Economic, Social and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Faculty of Social Sciences of the KU Leuven agreed to establish the UNESCO Chair in Building Sustainable Peace. The UNESCO Chair in Building Sustainable Peace is one of only seven UNESCO Chairs in the in Belgium and forms an integral part of the Centre for Research on Peace and Development (CRPD).

Ongoing Research Projects

Several research projects are currently ongoing within CRPD. Countries of study include the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Colombia, Indonesia, and Belgium.
