Research Area & Mission
The IMMRC (Interculturalism, Migration and Minority Research Centre) as a research unit aims to conduct state-of-the-art anthropological analysis of topics related to migration and minorities related crossroads. These topics include not only encounters and cross-fertilisations but also potential conflicts between ethnic-cultural minorities and majority/majorities and interethnic strife. The different research topics are organised in a coherent and complimentary way according to the following research line: the anthropological research of phenomena and dynamics concerning border-crossing mobilities (external as well as internal).
Research Programmes & Current Projects
- External crossing boundaries: ‘new’ migrations (Europe – Asia)
- Internal border crossing: religion (c.q. ethnicity)
- Construction and blurring of internal boundaries: ethnicity (c.q. religion) versus ephemeral relations
- Cross-culturality: the aesthetic creation
- Borderlands and third spaces: disability research
- Cultural Mobilities Research
