Our mission

Providing doctoral education in a more systematic way in order to build a stronger research community in Social Sciences.

Who we are

The PhD School of Social Sciences is the institution responsible for the PhD Programme in Social Sciences and the PhD Programme in Social and Cultural Anthropology of the KU Leuven. The PhD School acts as a point of reference for the academic careers of the PhD students in Social Sciences and coordinates doctoral projects from the eight Research Units of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

What we do

The Faculty of Social Sciences of the KU Leuven awards the degrees of Doctor in Social Sciences and Doctor in Social and Cultural Anthropology. These degrees are awarded at the conclusion of a PhD Programme and following the successful public defence of a PhD thesis.

Our PhD Programme relies on an advanced methodological and disciplinary coursework and the attendance of Summer Schools and additional training sessions by our PhD students.
