Master of European Politics and Policies (MEPP)
Admission Requirements
Academic requirements
A university degree after at least 4 years of study (Master's degree or equivalent) in the fields of Political Science, Sociology, Law, Economics or Contemporary European History is required. This diploma should be obtained 'cum laude' ('honours'/ 'with distinction') from an internationally recognized university.
The Steering Committee can consider the case of candidates with a degree in other fields than the ones mentioned above either on the ground of a professional experience in policy analysis or policy implementation or based on a complementary study in a relevant field e.g. a certificate of European Studies, Business administration, after an initial diploma in engineering, in positive sciences or in philology.
In order to properly assess the academic results, all candidates should enclose an official explanation of the grading system used in the academic institution(s) where they pursued their graduate studies.
Language requirements
All applicants whose native language is not English are required to provide evidence of proficiency in the English language, by submitting the results of an internationally recognized language proficiency test, indicating a C-level on the Common Framework of Reference level of the Council of Europe.
Note that the language criteria as applied by the MEPP programme are stricter than those indicated on the general website of the International Admissions and Mobility Unit.
The MEPP programme only accepts three tests as valid:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), for which the minimum total score required is 600 (for paper based test); 250 (for the computer-based test); or 100 (on the new TOEFL Internet-based Test). [Online registration for TOEFL test]
- The IELTS administered test (International English Language Testing System), for which the minimum score required is band 7.0-7.5
- University of Cambridge examinations: Grade C (CAE or CPE)
Proficiency in English is necessary to benefit fully from the programme. Hence, MEPP cooperates with the Leuven Language Institute (ILT), which organizes two different "English Crash Courses": 'General English' and 'Academic English'. Further details about these courses (content, fees, etc.) can be found on the Leuven Language Institute website.
