General information
Can I combine the MEPP programme with a professional activity ?
As all our courses are taught during the day
and attendance is required, it’s very demanding to combine
the programme with a professional activity.
However, since the implementation of the Decree on the Flexibility
of Higher Education by the Flemish Government (30 April 2004),
students from countries belonging to the European Economic
Region (EER) (i.e. European Union Countries and Liechtenstein,
Norway or Iceland) can request to spread their courses over
a period of max. 4 years. In this scenario, the deliberation
will take place after finishing the complete programme.
Students from countries not belonging to the European Economic Region, can only register for a full time diploma contract. They will not be granted a residential permit upon attempting to obtain any other type of registration (i.e. part time).
Will it be feasible to live in Brussels and come to Leuven for lectures etc. ?
Each year, many of our students live in Brussels and come to Leuven by train. It takes approximately 30 minutes.
I’m already enrolled in a M.A. programme at another university and I would like to transfer to the MEPP programme. Is this possible?
The MEPP programme does not accept transfer of credits. All students, regardless of their previous academic experience, are required to complete the entire programme, starting the 3rd week of September.
Can I study from abroad (e.g. distance learning)?
It is not possible to follow the MEPP programme on a distance learning basis. All students are expected to attend the research seminar and classes, and meet regularly with their thesis supervisor.
What financial aid packages/scholarships does the MEPP programme offer?
The MEPP programme and the Faculty of Social
Sciences do not grant any scholarships, but a limited number
of scholarships is available from other sources, primarily
for students from developing countries and students living in Belgium.
Inquiries should in the first place be made to institutions
in the country of the applicant.

Can I apply to start in the second semester (February)?
The Master of European Politics and Policies programme does not consider applications for the second semester. All students are expected to start the programme in the beginning of the academic year, i.e. September.
Is it possible to apply even if I am not yet in possession of my degree?
You may already apply in your last year of university studies. The copy of the degree has to be sent upon graduation. Your application would, in that case, be conditional.
I have difficulties in downloading the application form.
You need to download the form as a PDF file. This means that you must have Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded for free at: http://www.adobe.com. You can fill in this form online and print it out or save it.
Can I send my application via e-mail or fax?
No, applications sent by e-mail or fax are not accepted. Your application must be sent by post.
I missed the deadline for applying.. Can I still apply?
No, as the selection process starts immediately after the registration deadline, it’s not possible to consider applications received after the deadline.
Does the K.U.Leuven send an acknowledgement of receipt of my application?
You will be able to follow the application process through the online application form. Please consult it regularly.
Where should I send my diploma after the deadline?
Additional documents should be sent to the International Admissions and Mobility Unit of K.U.Leuven:

Languages
What is the language of tuition?
The MEPP programme is entirely taught in English
What is the TOEFL institution code of K.U.Leuven?
The institution code of K.U.Leuven is 0749
I have a certificate from my teacher saying that I can speak English. Is this enough proof?
The MEPP programme strongly emphasizes the need to have a good command of English. Without it, it will prove impossible to aptly follow the MEPP programme. Each country has its own standards and methods of judging language ability which is why we ask for an internationally recognized proof of language capacity. What can be considered as ‘good’ in one country, may be judged as ‘poor’ in another. Since we want to be sure that students can comfortably follow our academic courses here in English, all applicants are required to provide an internationally recognized TOEFL test (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate). See also "Languages" on the Admission page.
Admission Questions
How long does it take for an applicant to receive an admission decision after he/she submitted his/her application?
The Selection Committee of the MEPP programme is meeting after every application deadline. We aim to provide a definitive response within a period of 2 months.
How will I be notified regarding the outcome of my application?
You will receive an official message in the online application tool from the International Admissions and Mobility Unit announcing
the outcome of your application.
No authoritative decisions will be given over the telephone
or by e-mail. A decision is only authoritative and official
if it is sent from the International Admissions and Mobility Unit.
How many applications do you get each year? How many of them are accepted.
For the academic year 2006-2007, 84 applications were received. The programme made 25 offers and all were accepted. For the 2007-2008 academic year 62 applications were received, 20 students were considered positive. For 2008-2009, about the same number of applications reached us (64) of which 27 were admitted to the programme. For the year 2009-2010, 80 applications were made, from which 37 students received a positive advice.
Overall, a tendency can be determined that about one third of all applications are considered positive. The last few years, more positive offers can be made due to self-selection by students. There is a tendency that mostly qualified students apply, while ‘education-shoppers’ withdraw.
