Master of European Politics and Policies (MEPP)

Information for outgoing EMPA exchange students

Financial information

EMPA exchange students are free from paying any additional tuition fee at the partner institution. Only living expenses need to be covered. In addition, MEPP subsidizes its outgoing exchange students by reimbursing one return ticket (Leuven-EMPA partner-Leuven).

Administrative formalities prior to departure

The following admission criteria are applied to candidate selection:

  • academic performance
  • English language skills OR other language skills
  • motivation

Application procedure

Interested students should submit a statement of purpose together with curriculum vitae to the MEPP Steering Committee.
Additionally, a proof of French/German language proficiency is requested for students applying for respectively Sciences-Po (France) or Speyer (Germany).

Notification

Once the selection process is over, all applicants are notified by the MEPP co-ordinator of the selection results by e-mail. Successful candidates are then requested to fill in the application forms and submit other documents that are requested by the Receiving University (application forms are available at the MEPP office).
The receiving university makes the final decision as to the exchange students’ acceptance and has the right to accept or deny applications.

Administrative formalities upon arrival

Exchange students should notify the MEPP co-ordinator as soon as possible about the courses (including course number, type of course (e.g. seminar), course outline, assessment, ECTS credits) they would like to follow at the partner university.
Students are expected to take as many credits as needed to fulfil their requirement of min. 60 (max. 66) program credits.
Note that language courses are not taken into account for the overall amount of credits.
The selection of courses must be approved by both the receiving university and the MEPP Steering Committee.

Back in Leuven

In compliance with the EMPA Consortium requirements, exchange students are requested to submit an additional dissertation copy to the MEPP office, which will be sent for evaluation to the partner university (MEPP dissertation guidelines).
Grades obtained at the Partner University might be translated into 'native' Leuven grades, if necessary.
Upon successful completion of the study program, the exchange student will receive an "EMPA certificate", signed by K.U.Leuven and the Receiving University.

All students are further requested to submit a student experience report (+/- two-four A4 pages- in electronic version) to the MEPP co-ordinator, describing their experiences at the partner university.
