Co-ordinating for cohesion in the public sector of the future (COCOPS)
COCOPS is a major European research project – possibly the biggest single piece of European scientific research into public management reform (2.7M euros). It is co-ordinated by Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, and involves 11 universities in 10 countries. The Public Management Institute at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven will be leading the first Work Package (WP1) and also contributing to the later WPs.
WP1 will be led by Professor Christopher Pollitt, assisted by Sorin Dan. It will produce a meta analysis of studies of the impacts of New Public Management-type reforms across Europe. This will involve analysis of hundreds – probably thousands – of government reports and academic studies. WP1 will also produce a policy brief and an annotated electronic bibliography.
The Public Management Institute will also be making inputs to the later modules. Professor Geert Bouckaert, the Institute’s director, and Professor Koen Verhoest will both be involved in these later stages.
