International public service motivation conference 2009
From 7 to 9 June 2009, many of the Study Group regulars were present at the international public service motivation
conference in Bloomington, USA. The conference was hosted by James Perry (SPEA, Indiana University) and Annie Hondeghem
(Public Management Institute, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven). If you are interested in the current state of affairs
in public service motivation research, you can read some of the over 40 (and all very interesting) papers on the
conference website. Meanwhile, another special issue on
public service motivation, edited by Annie Hondeghem and James Perry, has been published in the International
Review on Administrative Sciences. Most of the contributions have been written by members of the Study Group and even presented at previous conferences.

Book on public service motivation by Oxford University Press
 |
Jim Perry and Annie Hondeghem have continued their efforts to promote the concept of public service motivation by
publishing a book with Oxford University Press on the state of the art of public service motivation research. It concerns an edited
volume of papers written by an international set of scholars who each individually have a track record in PSM-research. Given the
importance of the topic in the research of the Study Group, it may not come as a surprise that seven of the fourteen chapters
have been authored or co-authored by Study Group members. We hope that this book will prove to be a landmark publication in future
public service motivation research.

Special issue in International Public Management Journal
Annie Hondeghem and Jim Perry have edited a special issue on public service motivation. Although it is no exclusive EGPA-affair, three of the papers
have been presented at previous EGPA conferences. This special issue is another outcome
of the enduring attention of the Study Group towards this topic. More information on the issue and its articles can be
found here.
Special issue on PSM is received well
The special issue in Public Policy and Administration on Public Service Motivation and commitment,
edited by dr. Sylvia Horton and dr. Annie Hondeghem (co-chairs of the Study Group on Public Personnel Policies), is very well received by the audience of the journal. From December
2006 until July 2007, five articles in this issue were in the top-ten most accessed articles in PPA.
Given that these articles were already published in the first issue of 2006, this is a remarkable achievement, demonstrating
the importance of the work done by Study Group members.
- 'Public Management Reform: An Identity Project ', by Meyer and Hammerschmid (3th)
- 'Towards Developing an Organisational Commitment - Public Service Motivation Model for
the Maltese Public Service Employees ' by Camilleri (4th)
- 'The Effects of Psychological Contract Fulfilment and Public Service Motivation on Organizational Commitment in the French Civil
Service', by Castaing (5th)
- 'Public Sector Motivation: Is There Something to Learn From the Study of Volunteerism?', by Steen (8th)
- 'Public Service Motivation in an International Comparative Perspective: The UK and Germany' by Vandenabeele et al. (9th)
