Human Body Interface
DarkMatr gathers artists and scientists who explore alternative ways to experience the internet as we know it today. It is an interactive installation that investigates the web as if it was a database for collective human intelligence in the connected age. Using data vizualisation graphics, cinema immersion, open source software and new media (thermal camera and biofilm screen), the human body becomes a physical interface to connect with the virtualized knowledge of the net.
DarkMatr investigates the way data from the web and our physical world can be merged and presented in a total user experience. The installation uses representations that are recognizable for humans and which humans can empathize with. We are interested in how to visualize complex patterns generated from the combination of physical and virtual data.
By means of the development of an immersive environment, in which a user is part of the system, the data visualization is presented in an interactive sensory experience. We combine movements of a human body as an input device with data and tools originating from the internet. Through this, DarkMatr aims to create a cinematic experience, which we believe empowers immersivity.
DarkMatr is a work in progress. It uses open source tools like Processing and PureData and the makers of the installation continue to invite other artists and researchers to question the issues it connects with.
