Financial matters
An overall estimate of the average monthly living expenses in Luxembourg and Leuven, accommodation and personal living expenses included, would be €650. This gives an idea of the relatively high living standard in these countries. Moreover, life abundantly shows that quality comes at a cost. IMPALLA however is proud to deserve the support of the Luxembourgish Ministry of Higher Education and Research, that enables our students to study instead of worry.
Costs covered by the programme
- Travel by bus between Luxembourg and Leuven or by train during any excursion organised by the programme.
- Most of the educational material such as copies, handouts, books and up-to-date IT facilities are provided and covered by the programme
Costs to be paid by the student
- Application fee for non-EEA students; €75

- Costs prior to arrival, such as visa expenses and travel costs between the student's original country and Luxembourg.
- Registration fee; normally a registration fee for this programme would amount to €5000, but the support of the Luxembourgish governement allowed us to put the fee at €540 (can be slightly increased after indexation).
- Costs during the programme, such as a guarantee for notebook, access badge, accommodation, etc. (€250, reimbursable at the end of the academic year), and third-party insurance for Luxembourg and Belgium (€60).
- Residence permit for Non-EU students only (about €29)
- Health insurance (about €100/month), except for EU students who are covered as family members (co-insurance).
IMPALLA Grant
Financial support by the programme is possible. It can take different formats:
- a monthly allowance
- a tuition waiver
- a rent contribution*
- contribution to health insurance cost
- breakfast and lunch on school days
or a combination of the above.
The programme treats requests for grants separately from the selection of the students. The grant decision is based upon the information given in the application form and upon the requested documents that give evidence of the student's financial means.
* Note: Students should not worry about accommodation. The IMPALLA programme organises accommodation for all students, in Luxembourg as well as in Leuven.
