POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER (M/F) in quantitative social sciences
as Assistant-Professor for IMPALLA
JOB DESCRIPTION

As member of a team comprising a programme manager and three assistant professors you will be co-responsible for tutoring students of the IMPALLA programme. This may comprise: further elaboration of the taught courses by means of developing illustrative exercises for the students (case-studies, expert-meetings, etc.), supervising the students while executing these exercises (both individually or in a group), acting as an intermediary between students and professors, giving guidance to students writing their master’s dissertation, being involved in the administration of the programme…

You will also join as a post-doctoral researcher a research team at CEPS/INSTEAD. A major part of your time will be devoted to personal research activities (in the field of social policy analysis, labour market studies, quantitative methods…) and you will contribute to the portfolio of scientific research of CEPS/INSTEAD.
PROFILE

You should hold a Ph.D. degree in Sociology, Economics or Social geography and have expertise in methodology and statistics in empirical social policy research.

You should be flexible both in terms of working hours and working place. As an intermediate between students and professors, you will be available to both, sometimes even outside office hours. Moreover, you will be sometimes asked to follow the students during their three months stay at the University of Leuven.

You should have an organisational ability and excellent communication skills in English (both oral and written). French and computer science skills are valuable assets. Moreover, you should have a positive attitude and, since you are part of a team, you must be a team player, but capable of taking initiatives.

You should like working with graduate students and professors who are both of diverse scientific, cultural and national backgrounds.
COMPLEMENTARY INFORMATION
- Type of contract: full time
- Date of engagement: August 1st, 2011 or soon afterwards
- Length of the engagement: two year contract
- Salary: very competitive, according to the high Luxembourg standards.

About CEPS/INSTEAD
CEPS/INSTEAD is a multi-disciplinary research institute and data producer originating from a private, non-profit organization founded in 1978. It is currently based in Esch-s-A (G.D. Luxembourg). Its international research staff is composed of sociologists, social policy analysts, economists, statisticians, geographers, demographers and psychologists.

- conduct and organize cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of populations, poverty and socioeconomic policy;
