The Winter School is jointly organized by the Universities of Montréal and Leuven, and receives support from the ECPR Standing Group on Public Opinion and Voting Behavior, the ICPSR Summer Program, the Leuven International doctoral school for the Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Centre for the Study of Democratic Citizenship.

The third edition of the Leuven-Montreal Winter School on Elections will take place at the University of Leuven (Belgium) from 25 February to 5 March 2017. The Winter School offers courses for PhD students working on elections and voting behavior. 

Content

Previous editions of the Winter School included lectures on topics such as issue voting, political communication, election campaigns, political knowledge, strategic voting, political psychology, economic voting, and political participation. The lecturers were André Blais, Claes de Vreese, William Jacoby, Romain Lachat, Sona Golder, Richard Johnston, Richard Lau, Michael Lewis-Beck, Marc Hooghe, Patrick Fournier, and Ruth Dassonneville. While some of these lecturers will return, the 2017 edition will include new topics and lecturers. 

The Winter School now collaborates with the ICPSR Summer Program (University of Michigan) for a session on methods for electoral research. One full day will be devoted to the methodology of electoral research.

Fee

The tuition fee for the Winter School is 340 euro. This includes the lectures, texts and catering but not housing.

Please note that your payment should reach us by February 8, 2017

Accreditation and grading

Successful participation in the Winter School will be fully accredited (6 ECTS). Additionally, students who require a grade will be evaluated according to the  following three requirements; participation in the discussions of the seminar (25%), oral presentation of the student paper (25%), and the quality of the student paper as revised no later than 6 weeks after the end of the course (50%). This revision should reflect the recommendations given during the seminar.
